I ve obviously missed out the first book and maybe that would have explained the one person I had issues with..David This was a problem as David was the main character The role he was playing made no sense He was a doctor turned amateur detective And he seem to be doing than the cops were, and they didn t mind They were actively letting him get involved and it felt like he was leading the case than they were In every other book film that involves amatuer detectives, the police are not keen on them Also Kathy, his fiancee who actually IS a cop is treated like his personal secretary He will literally just phone her and be like Hey can you call so and so and set up a meeting And even though she mentions in the book that they are really busy and overworked She always has time to do this for him and she doesn t mind There romance is pretty clumsy throughout the book The scene were he asks her to wear something nice is pretty cringe It also seemed weird that the mob didn t want David involved why they were scared of him, I have no idea but then they cut his power to his house, basically inviting him to get involved And actually it was never explained why they did that I liked his sidekick Musco but even he made no sense He was a cab driver who had the time to drop everything and help David with the case He also gives out free rides to loads of people which seemed odd He was also an expert at picking locks Overall this story was pretty far fetched and some of the one liners were like something out of a bad tv crime drama However you won t be bored reading it, even if it s just to read in disbelief and if you really have nothing else to read, it s not the worse book you could pick up.

Slightly odd amateur sleuth story David Brooks is a physician turned detective with a notebook.

This murder mystery was written by a MD and the amateur detective sleuth is Dr David Brooks Set in a fictional CT town, he is called in to find out who murdered a research scientist affiliated with a local gene therapy company that has heavy grant ties to a local university Some of the scientific stuff was a little complex for me This book solved the crime in about 2 weeks, but Dr Brooks was in South America, Chicago, New York, Cape Cod and the involvement of international mobs got a little complicated with the exchanges and characters Overall I enjoyed the book and there was a little twist at the end with one the character s role, but I found the dialogue sometimes bizarre I also didn t feel it was necessary to describe outfits in this type of book The chemistry between Dr Brooks and his detective fianc e was lackluster for me One thing the character did was recap his case and plan on his computer to help refresh the details I actually want to give this book 2.5 stars.
