10 13 16 Currently free at Audible. This was really a pretty good short story A lot involved than I would have expected for such a short piece Really, a great way to spend an hour The narration was wonderful I would definitely look for works by this author and narrator.

This month I am completing a book challenge with fellow bookworm that requires we read an audio book So off I went and downloaded an app on my ipad, which came complete with a free audio book The audio book I selected to read was To Die For by Alice Clark Platts and narrated by Rachel Bavidge I haven t read anything by this author before but the cover seemed to signal it was a book from a genre I do enjoy, the thriller and crime genre In short, this book opens as a troubled 18 year old boy sits in his car in the woods contemplating suicide The resulting story is the investigation into his death, involving a female detective on the case as she tries to unearth the truth and circumstances leading up to the victim s sad death The detective also works to bring about justice for the young man The plot is quite interesting and I see with a few previous reviews it seems to be loosely based on a real life case of a similar nature The characters were also intriguing but not developed as much as I would have liked, which was a pitfall of this short audio book The setting was nicely developed and the use of the author s local based accent for this area added to the authenticity of the tale The ending was neatly wrapped up and closed with a fairly clich d quote from the lead detective in the book As a first time audio book user, I found this experience a little surreal My biggest problem was not being able to engage my eyes in the reading experience To Die For was a short audio book, it was only 1 hour and 10 minutes in duration Therefore, it is probably not the best audio book to judge on my overall opinion on this method of reading It did encourage me to look into print books by the author I also enjoyed the narration, I thought Bavidge had a good tone and she was able to vary her pitch, as well as her accent quite well I almost completed this audio book experience in one sitting, save for the last 5 minutes So for those looking for a short, sharp and all consuming book, my attention didn t waver for the length of this audio, this one might be a good selection.

2.5 stars To Die For seemed like part of a story, than a full one That said, a couple of the characters were very well drawn, if hateful , and I would have liked to have read about them But by then, this story was over. Thanks to Audible for the free download I may try a full book from the author in the future.Read 3.23.17

2.5 stars. What the actual Ok What was that I have to say that I kind of enjoyed this but at the same time I really hated it too.You are supposed to read this without knowing anything about it, but that will just confuse you even To die for is about a guy that one day is found dead in town, so the mystery is if he killed himself or someone killed him. This was free on Audible so I picked it up and it was really short Because why not IT WAS A FREE BOOK The plot was confusing The author dragged on too much at the beginning so it didn t catch my attention In the middle of the book, I have to admit that I was a little bit hooked, but I was still confused because the author didn t explain too much about what really was going on.The plot twist was irrelevant The end was predictable The author tried to save the end with that, but failed trying. And about what I m referring to, I didn t buy it That explanation was just so WTF The characters drove me nuts every time, and every one was annoying I didn t even care for them They were so stupid I know that as human beings, we all make mistakes, but DUDE, come on.And finally, I hated the narrator She didn t transmitted any emotion to me and made the story look less appealing.Resume I don t really recommend it.

Novellas don t need to be long to contain a good story but they do need a story This wasn t a bad short but it didn t really wrap things up and there were a few too many characters for such a quick tale I didn t need a super wrapped up ending but it just kind of ended without really even an open ending to allow readers to draw their own conclusions It just kind of stopped But it was a different sort of story It had a twist, it had a different angle, and I actually was interested the whole time I wasn t totally thrilled with the direction but it did have its interesting points.

This is a quick listen at an hour and nine minutes It is a disturbing story that one reviewer called Death by Bullying The story starts at the scene of a young man in a car and it is soon apparent he is struggling with the idea of committing suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning It becomes apparent that someone is egging him on through text The investigator senses something isn t right and pushes to find the truth. The story is cleanly written with strong description that puts the reader listener in the story. This is so tragic and similar to a case that was in the news this summer Although suicides promoted by bullying is not new The ending was a little abrupt but still appropriate to the short story.Although it is hard to recommend such a disturbing read, this short work makes me inclined to try by the author Audio Notes I really liked the strong English reading by Rachel Bavidge She captured the intensity of the detective and the self centeredness of the young woman who encouraged the death I would like to listen to books narrated by Ms Bavidge. This audio was from my Audible TBR shelf and adds to my 2017 Mount TBR and 2017 Audio Book Challenges.
