This is big, wonderful space opera with realistic, complex characters Rory Thorne is, of course, foremost among them a cross between a young princess Leia and Sansa Stark but the secondary characters are so well drawn that they almost steal the show That s not quite right they don t steal the show they create the show The world and its politics are complex and twisty in the best way Informed by history it doesn t take much to see the shadows of Scotland and Ireland in the Lanscottirs this book is a must for fans of intricate, well devised political drama In space Because everything is better if you set it in space.

Disclaimer I received this book from Netgalley This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest How Rory Thorne Destroyed the Multiverse is one of those books that surpasses your expectations It is not only delightful, clever, but also entertaining Consistently playing with fairy tale tropes and convention, Rory Thorne is a fast paced read How Rory Thorne Destroyed the Multiverse is exactly what I needed to read There s just the right amount of snark, of cleverness, and humor Taking fairy tale tropes, Eason turns them around on their head Not only does Eason subvert our expectations, but also seems to question the tropes themselves There s such a flair for writing and Rory s perspective jumps off the pages It s a perfect storm in the making.

Let me preface this with I have struggled with finding a good book to read, and this IS a good book to read I received an advance copy at San Diego Comic Con The big money in this story is the characters However, not the characters you might think The stars of the show are the adults, and I flew through the first half of Rory s chronicle because I had fallen head over heels for the likes of Grytt and the Vizier, Rory s pair of of body guards, Samur, even the hammy Regent was fun to peak in on once in awhile Rory was brought to life by all the people around her, that the second half dramatically felt their absence once she started coming into her own The blurb on the back of the book implies that Rory s path to destroying the Multiverse will turn all tropes on their head She is no doubt a strong independent lady Though her story does slow down to include a gasp.boy He is fine, I guess Again, the Princess s best moments are when the supporting roles carry the torches of plot and characterization around her I must also comment upon the world building, which is wordy but only because it is told through a historian s perspective I kinda dig the factual prolonged sentences, because they are just so, so juicy with content My one note is that we learn so much in the first half, that the second half falls back on repetitive statements such as comparing people to tree rats many a time In general, I had fun reading this Like, a lot fun than I ve had in awhile Maybe I just need to take quizzes at Comic Con publisher booths often Details like pacing are important, but I value just being able to sit on the beach with a book and become a part of a story, and to that end, this succeeded.

I had a hard time getting into this one I m wondering if it was the pacing of the story or the story itself Usually, I burn through a book in one day, being unable to put it down, but this book took me several days to get through because I kept getting board with the story I loved the characters They were fun and colorful The world was interesting and full of scifi elements I could only give it a three star It just wasn t right for me.Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review BLOG FACEBOOK TWITTER INSTAGRAM GOODREADS BLOGLOVIN
